American Brilliant Cut Glass Compote (Comport)

This beautifully cut compote just sparkles in the light - it is a lovely example of American brilliant glass. Although unmarked, we have seen this piece attributed to Kelly & Steinman of Honesdale, PA. The pattern is "Roman", which appears in a number of the company's 1907 trade ads.

It measures at 7.75" tall and has a diameter on top of about 6.25". The foot has a 24-point hobstar and the clear, un-notched stem has a long, double-pointed air bubble.

Condition is very good. There is a flaw in the middle of the foot - which may be an external crack or narrow chip. It measures about 1/2" and is very narrow; it is not visible from the top since it is underneath the stem.

This is truly a brilliant piece of cut glass, from the ornate decoration of its bowl, down the elegant simplicity of its stem, to the complicated pattern on its foot.
