A spring bouquet welcomes you from this lovely and highly desirable cobalt RS Prussia bowl. The bowl bears the Steeple Mark #3 (based on Mary Frank Gaston’s numbering system). This is a quite rare and unusual R.S. Prussia box featuring Rembrandt’s Night Watchmen. The Schlegelmilch company used two different Night Watchmen transfers; this is the one with a woman in the center. The background is light brown shading to dark brown – a typical background for this transfer. The shape is an asymmetrical diamond with rounded corners. This perky nuthatch clings to a branch that scarcely seems thick enough to hold him, but he doesn’t seem to care. The branch is filled with pink blossoms and spring has arrived! This plate bears the R.S. Tillowitz mark which was used by the Reinhold Schlegelmilch company during the 1930s and into the 40s. This plate measures 9 3/4" in diameter and has two cut out handles. This pretty scenic bowl has the RS Tillowitz/Silesia mark and dates to the early 1930s. The border has a luster glaze. The image is one of two Mill scenes found on RS Germany marked dishes – they are not the same Mill scenes found on RS Prussia marked dishes. This one presumably shows the mill from the back, as the water wheel can’t be seen. Similar dishes can be seen in Gaston’s ‘Collector’s Encyclopedia of RS Prussia: Fourth Series’ on page 74. The wildflowers in the center of this lovely bowl look as though they might be nestled in a woodland meadow somewhere. Their beauty is accentuated by the molded flowers around the edge, and the rose buds and stenciled leaves decorating the sides. These two little vases are from a series produced by Royal Worcester called ‘Cottages in Worcestershire and Warwickshire’ (pattern #Z160). The marks on these beauties date them to 1929. They feature Mary Arden’s House in Stratford-on-Avon and Elmley Castle, a thatched roofed village in Worcestershire. This pretty syrup pitcher with under plate is the perfect blend of simple and ornate. The mold shape has clean, elegant lines but the decoration is quite detailed and ornate. A simple shape but gorgeous flowers make this tray stand out. Various shades of pink and white hibiscus grace the surface, while a delicate gold trim laces around the edge.
