Chein Busy Mike Sand Toy

$115 USDChein Busy Mike Sand Toy

Collectibles:Toys:Chein:Sand Toys
From the 1930s here is a Chein Busy Mike sand toy. This particular example has been played with (those darn kids!), and shows the sands of time. This version has the red base, which we believe to be the earlier and less common version than the yellow flagstone base. There is some corrosion and scratches from use, and the price reflects that. This is a good example of a nice toy, which provided hours of fun in the sun.
Celluloid Windup Dancing Couple

$78 USDCelluloid Windup Dancing Couple

Collectibles:Toys:Japan:Celluloid
From Postwar Japan here is a Dancing Couple waltzing across time. The couple is marked “Made in Occupied Japan”. No manufacturer listed. The couple stands 5 inches tall. The colors are bright. There are a couple of problems. The windup key is showing rust, and there is a cut (less than 1/16 of an inch) on the gentleman’s left lower cheek. Some additional detailing with water could be done to bring this toy back to its original luster. One, two, three. One, two, three.
Belgian Tin Advertising Yo-Yo – Cichorei de Beukelaar

$57 USDBelgian Tin Advertising Yo-Yo – Cichorei de Beukelaar

Collectibles:Toys:Yo-yos:Tin Advertising
This advertising yo-yo has a wonderful graphic of a woman in traditional headdress hoisting a cup of hot… chicory drink! Chicory root has been used for years, particularly in Europe, as a cheap substitute for coffee. Its use was especially prevalent during war when coffee was scarce, which leads us to believe that this yo-yo dates to either before or shortly after World War II. The de Beukelaar Chicory company was in business during that time. Both sides of the yo-yo show the same picture. This ...
Duncan Incredible Hulk Yo-Yo MIB

$25 USDDuncan Incredible Hulk Yo-Yo MIB

Collectibles:Toys:Yo-yos
For that Incredible Hulk in your life, here is a mint in box Duncan Yo-Yo from 1978. It could even be you, when you look in the mirror! Mr. Hulk was captured in three different yo-yo versions. This one is the non-flicker version with the large Hulk face and double black border around “HULK”. Of the three types, this is the most difficult to find. The yo-yo comes in the original store-hanging display case, which is labeled Duncan. While there are wear scratches on the case, the yo-yo is mint. It ...
Duncan Big G Genuine Whistling Metal Yo-Yo

$95 USDDuncan Big G Genuine Whistling Metal Yo-Yo

Collectibles:Toys:Yo-yos
From the late 1940s, here is a very nice Duncan metal whistling yo-yo. Duncan didn’t make their own tin yo-yos but sub-contracted to the Cayo Company. Duncan tin yo-yos are very hard to find in good condition. They usually have rust, scratches and dents. This particular yo-yo is one of the best we’ve seen. It does have some of the characteristic scratches and edge-wear from being “walked”, but no rust. The stamp is excellent and the colors are bright and shiny. This yo-yo displays very well.
Distler Liliput Windup Car with almost a box

$125 USDDistler Liliput Windup Car with almost a box

Collectibles:Toys:Tin Windup
From one of the most famous long-lived German toymakers, DISTLER, here is a Liliput car windup. This little guy (or gal?), measuring just 2 1/2 inches, comes with most of the box, albeit in pieces - missing one end flap. And unfortunately, it’s also missing the key. We tested this car with one of our other German toy keys, so we know it works. Spare keys can be purchased through various sources. The key wind is a little smaller than the standard key, though. The car is in mint condition with ...
Conway Company Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum / REA Express Advertising Promo

$85 USDConway Company Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum / REA Express Advertising Promo

Collectibles:Toys:Advertising
What a marvelous advertising piece! Conway Company was known for its manufacturing of advertising promos in the 1950s and ‘60s. This is one of them. What makes this so special is that it advertises two companies, one of which is no longer in business. Everyone knows about Wrigley Spearmint gum. According to Wrigley’s website, this logo was used for many years, beginning in the ’50s. Wrigley’s has been a very successful company. On the other hand, REA Express declared bankruptcy in 1975, with ...
George Fischer Penney Toy Saloon Car

$135 USDGeorge Fischer Penney Toy Saloon Car

Collectibles:Toys:Penny Toys
Made in the 1920s or early ‘30s here is a George Fischer (GF on the door panel) Saloon Car. George Fischer made penny toys in Nuremberg and began using the monogram after World War One. What separates this saloon from most others is that it still has the original driver and steering wheel! An example of this toy can be seen in David Pressland’s book, "The Book of Penny Toys", on page 74. The toy is about 4 inches long, and about 1 ¾ inches high. This toy is showing the scrapes and scratches of a ...
SALE Masudaya (Modern Toys) Rotary Car-with Box!

$270 USD SaleSALE Masudaya (Modern Toys) Rotary Car-with Box!

Collectibles:Toys:Windup:Japan
What a remarkable find! Not listed in William Gallagher’s "Modern Toys From Japan. But…..an example, although a different color variation, and manufacturer (U N) is exhibited in the Toyoji Takayama Tin Toy Museum. We don’t use the word "rare" very often, but this toy may qualify. The Rotary Car was produced after World War Two, most likely during the American Occupation. The colors and lithograph are representative of the very late ‘40s to early ‘50s styling. The export stamp suggests a ...

German Tin Advertising Yo-Yo – Durodont, Red and Blue

$65 USDGerman Tin Advertising Yo-Yo – Durodont, Red and Blue

Collectibles:Toys:Yo-yos:Tin Advertising
This cheerful, multi-colored tin yo-yo advertises... you got it... toothpaste! Probably made in the 1950s or 1960s, it was given out to encourage parents to buy Durodont toothpaste - only 90 pfennig (German pennies) at the time. One side of this little toy has a boy in striped pajamas brushing his white teeth. The words say (in translation): 'DURODONT toothpaste - it tastes great!'. The blue side says: '200x pearly clean teeth with DURODONT for 90 pfg' (pfennig). This is a smallish yo-yo, at ...

Line-Mar Battery Operated Police Car

$95 USDLine-Mar Battery Operated Police Car

Collectibles:Toys:Battery Operated:Cars
From the 1950s, here is a very nice remote control car. No wireless in those days, so there is a long green covered wire running from the control to the car. The car can go forward and backwards, straight ahead or turn to the right or left. Condition of this toy is very good. It runs well, even the overhead light works. We believe the turning knob may have been replaced at some past time, since many of these types of toys of the ‘50s used a knob similar to a steering wheel. But we have not been ...
Number 8 Racing Jalopy

$115 USDNumber 8 Racing Jalopy

Collectibles:Toys
Here is a neat racing jalopy most likely from the 1930s. It is a little too large to call it a true penny toy, sizing in at almost 5 inches long and 2 inches high. This size would be okay for a saloon, but this is a coupe! And it probably cost more than a penny too. There isn’t any manufacturer’s name, but we believe it was made in Europe, possibly Great Britain or Germany. The wheels use a style which was exclusive to Johann Meier (the premier penny toy manufacturer of Germany) in the early ...
No. 300 Chein Baby Furniture 4 Piece Set

$165 USDNo. 300 Chein Baby Furniture 4 Piece Set

Collectibles:Toys
Seldom seen at one time, here is the 4 piece set of baby furniture made by J. Chein and Company in the 1950s or ‘60s. The pieces are large. The crib is 9 inches long, the high chair is 8 ½ inches tall, the wardrobe is 7 ½ inches tall, and the playpen is 7 inches square. While the set is showing some wear with a few bends and scratches, there isn’t any rust. The lithography is nicely done, with different images inside the crib and playpen. Chein did some great children’s toys, and this is a fine ...
Mausdaya (Modern Toys) Space Ship X-5-Near Mint in Box

$185 USDMausdaya (Modern Toys) Space Ship X-5-Near Mint in Box

Collectibles:Toys
In the 1960s and ‘70s, the imaginations of children worldwide were impressed with the possibilities of future space travel by the Gemini and Apollo space missions. The Japanese toymakers were also impressed. They took advantage of these times, and created some remarkable (and cheap!) toys to further enhance mankind’s step into the future. Here is one of those space toys, the X-5, produced between 1969 and 1974 by Masudaya (Modern Toys) of Japan. This toy is in very nice condition with only ...
Paya Train on Platform

$125 USDPaya Train on Platform

Collectibles:Toys:Penny Toys
Paya, a world renowned Spanish toy manufacturer, began making toys in 1905 and continued up until the beginning of WWII. The 1990s saw a resurgence by the Paya family to reproduce a few of the famous Paya toys from the original dies and blue prints. These reproductions have become valuable in their own right and can be found in several locations on the Internet. What you can’t find easily, if at all, is this very uncommon penny toy train from Paya. We believe this dates from the 1930s or ...
Playful Animal Swing by Yoneya – MIB

$220 USDPlayful Animal Swing by Yoneya – MIB

Collectibles:Toys:Windup:Japan
Here is an uncommon Japanese windup toy from the late 1950s or early ‘60s. This toy was made by S.Y, the trademark of Yoneya between 1950 and 1964. The toy has great lithography with a few scratches from age. The windup is strong, the swing works well. The toy comes with an accompanying flag, although we couldn’t find the right spot to connect it. It may just sit above the swing as decoration. The box is in nice condition, with some edge wear and a tear held together by a paper clip. At some ...
T.P.S. Magic Circus

$95 USDT.P.S. Magic Circus

Collectibles:Toys:Tin Windup:Tps
Another wonderful toy from T.P.S. (Toplay, Ltd), this is the 2 in 1 Magic Circus. According to William Gallagher’s Japanese Toys: Amusing Playthings from the Past, this toy began production in 1968 and was limited to 12,000 items. What you are seeing here is one that must have been new old store stock, since it is mint in the box. We believe we were the first to open and test the toy. This is a lever action toy rather than a wind-up. The monkey and the seal move around on the floor of the in the ...

According to William Gallagher’s book, Japanese Toys, this toy was limited to 30,000 pieces and was made in 1965. The toy itself is in excellent condition, with just a couple of rub marks on the platform. The cat and mouse seen is reminiscent of the cartoon, Tom and Jerry. The mouse has plastic ears and a rubber tail and doesn’t have any degree of wear. The box has some yellowing with ...

$125 USDT.P.S. Midget Lady-Bug, Mint in Box

Consider the larger version with a manufacturing run of 5,000,000 pieces! This toy is in like new condition with scratches from being boxed. The box is in excellent condition with some age marks, creases, and wear. There is some felt tip writing in the ...

$85 USDTPS Lady-bug Family Parade-Mint in Box

Collectibles:Toys:Tin Windup:Tps
From the best Japanese toy maker of the post WWII period, TPS, here is a mint in box example of the TPS Lady-Bug Family Parade. This particular example was exported by Cragstan. There is a one dollar price sticker still on the box for a company called Fred Harvey. Further research is needed to track this company down, if the new owner is inclined to do so. The toy is in perfect condition, with just a minimum of rubs and scratches from sitting in a box for several years. We doubt that this toy ...

This toy has bright lithography and no rust. There are some scratches most notably a long scratch on the back of the clown. We are guessing that the scratch occurred during poor storage. See the box! The ring of fire could use some new fuel: it’s kind of ...
1950 Duncan Yo-Yo Trophy for a Girl

$265 USD1950 Duncan Yo-Yo Trophy for a Girl

Collectibles:Toys:Yo-yos
From 1950, here is one of the rarest Duncan trophies to ever be awarded: a trophy for a girl champion. While there were many girls who did play with yo-yos in the ‘40s and ’50s, it was mostly considered a boy’s toy. But Donald Duncan was a very smart marketer, knowing that not including girls in his marketing effort would have been a major mistake. As a result, he encouraged girls to enter the Duncan competitions. The trophy plaque and base are not without their problems. The wood has some dings ...
1950s German Tin Advertising Yo-Yo – Erdal and Waxa

$75 USD1950s German Tin Advertising Yo-Yo – Erdal and Waxa

Collectibles:Toys:Yo-yos:Tin Advertising
This colorful advertising yo-yo dates back to the middle of the 20th century – probably the fifties. The front advertises Erdal shoe polish. Erdal polish was manufactured by the Werner and Mertz Company, which still exists today. The company began in the late 1800s; the Erdal name was created in 1901 and shortly after that the red ‘frog prince’ became the company’s trademark and mascot. The other side advertises Waxa floor polish. Waxa was another brand owned by the Erdal company. The frog has ...

Collectibles:Toys:Penny Toys
From the 1920s here is a multiple piece penny toy. It comes with the 2-soldier horse drawn cart, the cooking trailer, and a caisson with 2 soldiers. Very seldom are all three pieces seen together. The cannon still has its spring, and the cooking trailer still has its cooking pot and chimney. The carriage can pull either the trailer or the caisson, but not both at the same time. This particular toy has been attributed to Fischer but it could have been made by Meier too. The only marking is “Made ...
SALE Circus Auto Cycle

$85 USD SaleSALE Circus Auto Cycle

Collectibles:Toys:Windup:Japan
From Aoki Shokai of Japan, here is marvelous circus clown windup, mint in box. We would suspect this toy dates from the late ‘60s, or sometime into the ‘70s. Possibly a little later based on the lithography and box. We couldn’t find any details on this Japanese toy company, other than their trademark. Wind the toy up and it races along the floor. It then does a couple of flips and races along some more. Notice the clown’s flat head. Must have gotten that from doing lots of flips! Both the toy ...

$185 USD SaleSALE Georg Fischer Penny Toy Touring Vehicle and Half a Driver to Boot!

Collectibles:Toys:Penny Toys
From the very famous Georg Fischer toy company, you are viewing a top down touring car. This can be determined from the GF insignia on the sides of the doors. Condition is good by penny toy standards. There is the usual bare metal oxidation, paint scrapes and rubs. At some point, the windshield on the passenger side separated from the main body of the car. It’s difficult to see. It has only half a driver. But half is better than none! Items with a name brand command a higher price. But this one ...
Alligator Penny Toy

$115 USDAlligator Penny Toy

Collectibles:Toys:Penny Toys
Offered for sale is a nice Alligator Penny Toy, made after 1922 by Gebruder Einfelt. Einfelt began business in 1922. Times were much simpler in the ‘20s, and children could be entertained by very simple toys. This toy would have cost a penny and was sold on the streets of major European and American cities. Can you see a vendor hawking toys on a street corner today? This alligator is in very good condition. The head moves about 90 degrees to the left and to the right, and is well balanced. The ...
