SALE Miniature portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte

$180 USD SaleSALE Miniature portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
Every miniature portrait collection needs at least one Napoleon – and every Napoleon collection needs at least one miniature portrait. Here is a nice little miniature that is ready and willing to be a part of your collection. It is a small miniature – the painting itself is just over 1 5/8” in diameter, while painting and frame together measure 3 3/4”. It is water color, painted on what we believe is ivory, although we have not taken the painting out of its frame to confirm that. There is a ...
SALE Miniature of lady with hat – painted on ivory and signed

$215 USD SaleSALE Miniature of lady with hat – painted on ivory and signed

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
What a sweet face this young lady has. She’s all dressed up in her feathered Sunday hat and red striped dress – with a rather demure white shawl or collar. The painting is nicely done on ivory. Her face looks so real, and so pensive. The frame is ebonized wood, which has faded a bit over the years. We believe this miniature dates from the mid to late 1800s, based on the frame and hair style of the lady. The hanger in back looks as though it was added later. There is a signature that looks like ...
Miniature on ivory of Marie Mancini – beloved of Louis XIV

$285 USDMiniature on ivory of Marie Mancini – beloved of Louis XIV

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
This miniature, which dates to the late 1800s or very early 1900s, is of Marie Mancini (Anna Maria Mancini), a beautiful and vivacious niece of a 17th century cardinal. She was brought to Paris in the 1650s with her sisters, in the hope that they would find advantageous marriages. Instead Marie caught the eye of King Louis XIV. Although the king was apparently infatuated, the affair was never consummated. Marie was whisked off to marry an Italian prince, while Louis was pushed into marrying his ...
19th Century Miniature Portrait painted on ivory

$235 USD19th Century Miniature Portrait painted on ivory

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
We were struck by the interesting hair style on this fashionable lady, particularly the ringleted bangs hanging artfully on her forehead. Her face is also interesting; maybe a little uncomfortable at having to sit for her portrait, and yet there is a feeling of confidence as well. That, and just the hint of a double chin, makes us think this lady was a mid 19th century wife and woman of the household, possibly with a child or two. This is a nicely painted portrait which appears to be unsigned. ...
Miniature painting of lady in a red dress

$177 USDMiniature painting of lady in a red dress

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
This lovely lady looks rather haughtily out at us, seeming to be very aware of her beauty. Her hair is swept up into a bouffant, died with a blue ribbon, and she wears a red dress – or more likely, a red cloak over a white blouse. We believe this is water color on ivory, although we have not taken it apart. The frame is ebonized wood; the glass is flat. There is a signature, but it is not really readable. Most interesting is the back. An old, crumbling piece of paper was glued to the back. It ...
Painted Miniature on Porcelain

$225 USDPainted Miniature on Porcelain

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
We see this lovely young lady as a Gypsy possibly, dressed in her festival finery. She waits for her young man to arrive, sure that this is the day he will ask for her hand in marriage. That hopeful, yet slightly nervous look is in her eyes as she gazes into the distance. This is a beautiful little porcelain miniature, nicely painted and in good condition. We do cannot guarantee that the frame is original, but it suits the painting well. The frame is made of velvet, the nap of which has been ...
Hand painted Miniature Portrait – Lovely Woman with Flowers

$180 USDHand painted Miniature Portrait – Lovely Woman with Flowers

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
This miniature portrait features a rather solemn but sweet-faced young lady holding a basket of flowers. She is painted on celluloid, and dates to the early 1900s. The painting is surrounded by a finely decorated bronze rim and an ebonized wood frame. The back is paper with text, probably a page from an old book. The text has faded and it is difficult to determine the language. A triangular hanger is attached to the top. The painting is well done and very appealing. Condition is excellent. There ...
Hand painted & Signed Miniature Portrait – Young Woman with Pitcher

$180 USDHand painted & Signed Miniature Portrait – Young Woman with Pitcher

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
The demure and very romantic young lady in this miniature holds a classically shaped pitcher in one hand. A garland of flowers is draped over one shoulder, and additional flowers decorate her hair. She is painted on celluloid and dates to the early 1900s. This painting is signed on the right side. Depending on how one reads this, it could be "Alroy" – or "n Lacy" (which would indicate that it was a copy of a painting by someone named Lacy). We know – these two names don’t look alike, but these ...
Pair of Late 1800s Miniature Portraits – Photographs with Painting

$265 USDPair of Late 1800s Miniature Portraits – Photographs with Painting

Antiques:Art:Miniature Portrait
We fell in love with this couple and their earnest, bright eyed gaze. After much examination, we have concluded that these two portraits began as photographs, and were then embellished with a hand painted background and other details. We’ve done some research, and apparently there was a period of time during the second half of the 1800s when photography studios actually hired professional artists to make photographed portraits look more like paintings. This allowed people who couldn’t afford to ...
