This Very Sweet Italian Oil on Canvas, "Two Ladies", Giovanni Costa is in Excellent Condition,c1890. Giovanni Costa was born in Rome in 1826, later settled in Florence where his fight for the independence of art from worn-out traditions was well known across Europe. He became known as a landscape painter of remarkable originality and of great influence in the return to minute observation of nature. Costa had many English friends and followers, notably Mathew Ridley Corbet (1850-1902), Lord Carlisle, and was closely associated with Corot and the Barbizon school. In later years he lived and worked mainly in Rome where his studio was an important centre. An exhibition of his works was held in London in 1904 and he represented in the Tate Gallery. Costa died in Rome in 1903. The Painting is in a Lovely Hand-painted Gilt and wood frame. Measures 15 7/8" x 105/8", please view all pictures to enjoy, Serious Inquiries are Welcome!
