One rarely comes across the matched set of candlestick holders. Inevitably, over the course of time, one of them is lost or broken; not this time though.
Obviously, this was a well kept treasure and I am pleased to have found it.
This set (a rare find) has obviously been hand painted by a very talented artist.
The use of color, shadowing and the perception of depth are quite apparent on this gorgeous set of antique french porcelain candlesticks.
The slightly scalloped forest green base is beautifully hand painted with 'forget-me-nots' enhanced with white enamel highlights, raised gold enameling and beading.
Soft yellow background on the body with sky blue shadows, lush pink roses, delicate, powder blue 'forget-me-nots', fine greenery, phantom leaves and scrolling vines.
The collar is again hand painted in that rich forest green with the additional raised gold detailing, beading, white enamel highlights and baby blue 'forget-me-nots'.
There is a hint of turquoise in the shadows of the florals; adding a third dimension.
The lower base and upper lip has been gorgeously hand painted in coin gold.
Each candlestick stands 6 1/2" tall and is 4" at its base.
Excellent condition. Free of chips, cracks and hairlines.
Proudly displays the T&V mark #6, underglaze white ware mark in green 1892-1907. Probably about 1900.
The pictures truly do not do this set justice, they really are much more beautiful in person where one can actually see the depth of color and the raised gold beading and highlights.
