This fabulous American Brilliant Period (1875-1915) Cut Glass sugar bowl must have been cut by one of the master cutters, as there is practically no space on the piece that hasn't been cut. This is a piece that a master cutter would have been extremely proud of and is considered to be from the American Brilliant Flower Period (1906-1916). Both handles were skillfully double notched and applied, as well as being larger than one would normally see; as is the bowl itself. The rim features highly polished, serrated & scalloped peaks & valleys. The mitre cuts are quite deep & extremely well defined, with copper wheel cut flowers & foliage that are simply exquisite. There are areas of cuts very much resembling caning, which is also known as a "Harvard" cut. Since it isn't signed, we're not certain of the maker of this piece, but you can be sure that it is every bit an "upper end" piece of cut glass. It is in EXCELLENT CONDITION, meaning that although not in mint condition there are but a mere few flea-bites (teensy nicks), being very little damage for a piece of this age. Additionally, it shows sufficient wear to the base to support its age, which we believe is the latter part of the 1800's, before the turn-of-the-century.
It measures 3" in height, 3-1/2" in diameter, and weighs just under 2 pounds. The glass measures 1/4" in thickness & will most assuredly make a coveted addition to any cut glass collection.
