This lovely pair of glass candlesticks is one of the most interesting sets I've come across. Under close scrutiny one discovers that they are both rather crudely made, leading us to believe that these were made in the early part of the 1920's. In addition to that, they both initially appeared to have a crack @ the area which holds the candle. However, after looking at them through a jewelry loupe, it has been determined that they are not cracks at all, but merely a manufacturer's flaw. Both pieces also have some bubbles as well as straw marks which further substantiates that these are in fact early pieces. They both also have a fair amount of wear to the bottom, which is also consistent with their age. Both candlesticks have crude, handmade markings on the bottom which I was unable to get a clear picture of. So, I penciled over the mark as seen in the picture provided. This is the mark used by the Jefferson Glass Company. One candlestick measures 7-1/4" in height & 3-1/8" diameter at the base, while the other one measures 7-1/8" in height & 3-1/4" in diameter @ the base. Both pieces have solid columns and can accommodate up to a 3/4" diameter candle, which is the same size you'll see in the picture provided. Additionally, I found these same candlesticks shown in an online glass museum as being "Chippendale" with further authentication on another website for early pieces of glass. When I tried to add this information to this listing, Ruby Lane (for whatever reasons) did not allow me to do so. If you would like those website URL's please e-mail me & I will send them to you.
