I am so pleased to offer this lovely handled nappy from the American Brilliant Period (1875 through 1917). According to Warman's American Cut Glass, this lovely piece is in the Sardis pattern, shown on page 102. The mitre cut design is quite deep, very sharp, & well defined, with an applied, notched handle. The clarity of the glass is excellent (which means it is a hand polished piece & not acid washed) & when lightly tapped, it has the loveliest ring. It does have a few minor fleabites (darn those kitchen faucets!) but not one of them is large enough to measure. One of the teeth on the sawtooth rim was chipped, but luckily it was at an angle so it still appears as if the tooth is there, unless you view it with a jewelry loupe. It isn't immediately noticeable & certainly does not detract from the beauty of this stunning piece in any way. I didn't see it until looking at the piece with my jewelry loupe, and in my opinion it still displays beautifully. The bottom of the nappy also shows minor surface wear from use, which is consistent with its age. Otherwise there are no cracks, cloudiness, or repairs.
This lovely piece measures 5-1/4" in diameter and 1-1/4" in height. It would certainly make a lovely addition to one's cut glass or nappy collection.
