This is an absolutely wonderful vintage red lacquered Chinese box with the original brass plates & key. It features the most charming Chinese drawings of birds, butterflies, flowers & foliage, done in thin strokes gold.

Now, the key appears to be the original key, but we have been unable to actually open the box without using force. Since we're unwilling to compromise the box, we shall leave the decision of whether to open the box or not, up to the buyer. We estimate this lovely vintage box to be circa 1950's, but it's entirely possible that it may be as far back as the the 1930's or 1940's. It is in EXCELLENT CONDITION, meaning that although not in mint or "as new" condition, we have only found the slightest of darker marks here & there; certainly no more than 3-4 and all extremely small in size. Still, this is a most attractive piece and will certainly make an outstanding decorating statement no matter where it is placed.

It measures 5 -1/2" in height, 7" in width, and 9 -1/2" in length.
