This is an authentic African Maasai Tribe hand forged machete & its handmade leather scabbard, circa the 1950's. In addition to the leather scabbard & machete, the buyer will also receive the book about his travels in Africa, written by the man (Claud E. Aikman) who first brought these items back to the states for his grandson and the book has been signed by him as well. Then, you will also receive a letter of provenance from the grandson, Stephen Aikman, which further supports the authenticity and line of ownership. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what an interesting read this book is, describing what it was like to be on safari back when wild game was still being hunted.

Now, as to the condition of the machete & scabbard, I must stress to you that this was made & used by a real Maasai warrior. Therefore, you should understand that it has many imperfections as well as wear & tear, which i think should be expected for a used piece of this age. However, it is a marvelous piece for the collector of African (Kenya) memorabilia and will certainly display well, whether encased or merely mounted.

The book measures approximately 11" by 7" and had 368 pages. It is unused and therefore, in MINT CONDITION. The scabbard measures just over 16" in length and is approximately 3" in width. The machete measures just over 21" in length being approximately 2-3/4" in width. The handle of the machete measures approximately 5" in length and 1" across.
