Paul Blot, from what we've gained, was a specialized painter of fine porcelains working in Paris in the mid-1800s. His work we well received and he enjoyed many private commissions for his hand painted and original works of art on porcelains, like this grouping of 4 from a set of floral plates in gilded rim green borders. They're each different species of plants, all elegantly done with a confident and skillful hand. The address of his atilier, 3, rue de la Paix, Paris, is noted along with his hand scripted signature on the back of each of these four plates. Who knows who may have been the original commissioner of this set or how many M. Blot produced to accommodate his customer. Perhaps these were only wall or cabinet plates, but my bet is on them being part of a very large set commissioned for a special Springtime ball or wedding, event of some kind, which was the custom among the wealthy and aristocratic foreigners that inhabitted Paris in the mid-1800s, as well as by the locals. Elegant remainders of a time when no such thing as paper plates could have been imagined - and when a fine dinner party deserved the opulence of its own set of hand painted plates. Four in the set, and perfect as wall art now, or for your cabinet or table. Artist signed, as noted. One plate has an old restoration you can see from the backside (images in our photos). Otherwise, they're in very fine condition.
