Not long after learning of the marriage of Napoleon to Marie Louise, to put a time frame on this item, the person memorialized herein died. Imagine the interesting life lived and the history that played out during this person's lifetime. With a hair plaited lock tucked in the locket backing, this exquisite 18K gold, jet and seed pearl brooch is all in original state, circa 1812 dated dedication, Georgian era mourning jewelry of finest quality and condition. The elongated 'navette' form is all the more appealing and the generous ornate setting does test on MIZAR as 18K gold. We do guarantee our jewelry items just as we stand behind our other antiques, and we test each and every one. We often find that they are in fact NOT what the previous owner thought in terms of karat gold weight. This is one example where the prior owner was correct in the 18K gold description. Certainly a splendid piece both then and now, it's survived at least a century and a half as someone's treasured family heirloom.
