Georgian era - RARE! One of the beautiful old early ones, this charming hunting hound is late 1700s to early 1800s and is stunningly mounted in a coral-bead jeweled border, a red glass basin to the mosaic that matches it beautifully. The immediate collar around the dog tests at 18K gold on our MIZAR M24, though that's the only part that does. I suspect this wonderful early mosaic was worked much later on, Victorian era, into the brooch you see here. We had a near-matching and expanded grouping of many many of these red-basin early mosaics that were still in the original necklace, which is likely what something like this one was once part of. Many of the few that did survive were taken apart and remounted or made into brooches, etc., due to the value of the individual early mosaics. The dog we have here is rather unique, quite charming both in breed and pose. Don't miss it!

Very good to excellent condition, age considered. Not a single tiny sand sized tesserae missing and no cracks in the red basin, though you can see a little roughness to the surface of the red - scant evidence of its advanced age, to be sure, but to be noted. A fine old piece!
