Fabulous antique hand carved Black Forest figure grouping, a very rare cow figure with pack laden woman. I think this type is either Breton or Black Forest, and we've had similarly carved figures that were actually sewing thread spools, so this one has us a little puzzled, but isn't it wonderful! As delicate as can be and nicely sized, the pair are displayed on a large oval plinth/base. A milk cow, very rare for a Black Forest figure and these (carvings with cows) were featured in a recent article, for the life of me I can't remember the publication....I'll see if we can figure that out & add it later. The woman, standing to the left side of the cow, has a large pack strapped to her shoulders. Overloaded with pots, pans and even a butter churn....large brimmed hat in her hand. A wonderful decorative piece, priced to sell and won't be around long....don't miss it!

Good condition! The tip of one horn is chipped, no other flaw or damage to the cow. The woman figure has repaired breaks in the feet/ankle area and chips tot he brim of her had. Her right arm is a separate piece but appears to have been re-glued at some point. No chips or damage to the base. See pictures for measurements.
