Fabulous & Rare 19th Century Hand Carved Black Forest Style Figural Match Holder, Scrolled Wall Mount Plaque! We're not sure of the origin of this one, possibly English or American and the detail is fabulous! Carved from heavy old oak, multiple layers to achieve the depth and just a remarkable and rare wall decoration! Oversized for a match holder, the plaque is a full 12" tall! Scrolled bordering with a man's face in deep relief (the matches held in the top of his head). Masterful carving and though not likely a Black Forest work, this one is fabulous accenting a carved collection or country French/English decor (which is exactly where he's currently residing). Check our current listings for a fine collection of Black Forest and cigar/smoking pieces this week, including an extremely rare and fabulous Black Forest 'Fruits of the Hunt' motif cigar chest!! Very Good Condition! No age splitting or warping to the plaque, remarkable considering the size. There is a slight knock to the tip of his nose, a scratch on the right side of his lips and two chips on the base (one on each side of the scroll). The layers of the wood are apparent if you look closely at the profile, mentioned just for the unique nature of the piece and not a flaw. See pictures for measurements.
