"The best antique inventory online" - YOU said it, and often. Thanks! We try!
Susan here, listing from Europe again, and just back from Prague & a wonderful few days of study which included many of these magnificent Bohemian glassware items, so I feel particularly thrilled (and somewhat qualified) to present this stunning 19th century Moser goblet. The pieces I looked at in Prague last week were all priced through the roof, and I had to pass them all by. I saw several examples of this very same work in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague - elegant as ours. This would have tagged at 400 euro or more in Vienna, and higher in Prague. One might imagine this one having graced a table at which Franz Joseph's angel Elizabeth (Sisi) declined to eat yet again. (was she the world's most famous eating disorder royal?). But I digress. One can imagine a long elaborately set 1860s table, with a line of goblets of varied sizes, accented by the presence of this one ornately ruby flashed and wheel etched piece. The size is a mystery, though all goblets I saw in Vienna seem small. Maria Teresa's table setting might have had 5 or 6 goblets, but none held more than a few of ounces, I'm sure. If you're about to travel to this part of the world, get your souvenir here and pretend you got it there, saving yourself not only several $hundred, but also the hassle of customs and packing it. Great idea, yes? A fabulous piece, and we have the small casket to go along with it, sold separately.
Some very slight wear to the gilt enamel decoration but no chips or cracks. See pictures for measurements.
