Check out the fabulous flame mahogany graining on this cabinet! These are referred to as a butler's desk and were originally designed to be used while standing. The cabinet top and sides are solid cherry. The drawer pulls open to reveal a beautiful desk interior. Just inside the drawer front are 2 brass buttons. When pressed, the drawer face drops down to become a writing surface, which is velvet lined. Inside are 5 small hand dovetailed drawers with beautiful matched flame mahogany fronts and three cubbies. Check out the 4 secret document drawers. They are designed to look like columns between the drawers. Notice how the front of the large drawer and cabinet doors below have a banded flame mahogany inlaid design. In addition there is an inlaid Gothic design to the left and right of the top drawer. Below the inlaid design are full columns with delicately carved ionic capitals. Even the columns are flamed mahogany! The desk rests on turned feet. Behind the recessed paneled doors is a single long shelf. The doors and drawers have their original working locks. The desk has been recently refinished and is in excellent condition having a deep rich color. 44.25"h X 44.5"w X 23"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1840's.
