This is a walnut picture frame Victorian marble top table. These are called picture frames because the top outside wooden edge surrounding the marble is designed to lift off. Upon doing so, it looks like a picture frame. Then, the marble can be moved more easily and more safely. They are not as common as the regular marble tops and were generally of higher regard and quality. The top is beautifully shaped. Notice the applied small raised panels and details along the skirt/apron. Below each side of the skirt/apron are carved long drops, adding more interest and balancing the "over the top" carvings below. The base has 4 tiny finials. Two of the finials have approximately 1/2" of the tips missing. This is barely noticeable. There are 4 highly pierced carved wings projecting off the base. The base is extremely shapely and graceful, but with bold, heavy carvings. This is a classic Renaissance Revival Victorian center table. It was originally designed to be placed in the center of the parlor, but would look grand in the hall, parlor or bedroom. There are 2 small thin carvings missing along the base, but is not noticeable unless pointed out, and does not distract from the table's appeal. 29"h X 35.25"w X 25.5"d, Condition-Very Good, Circa-1870's

Item ID: K296
