A delightful majolica 4 1/2" pitcher made by Griffen, Smith and Hill, which operated in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania from 1867-1903. This pitcher was made c.1880 in the early days of "majolica mania" that swept the Victorian era between 1880-1900. The pattern is Wild Rose and consists of a pink interior, yellow rim with butterfly spout, and vertical "picket fence" design around the collar, a rose branch handle, and wickerwork around the pitcher's bottom. The primary color is green with a blue hue, and the wild rose is yellow. There is a 1/4" surface flake, barely perceptible, on the butterfly wing near the left side of the spout and a 3/8" hairline on one side; otherwise, no damage. The pitcher is marked with the GSH Etruscan mark on the bottom as pictured.
