Catawba Valley Alkaline Glaze 10" Storage Jar

A hand-thrown early 1900's Catawba Valley alkaline glaze storage jar standing 10" tall and 5 3/4" in diameter at its widest. There are no chips or cracks on this wonderful piece of North Carolina American art pottery. White specks in the jar are under glaze quartz common to the clay in the Catawba region, which crosses the North and South Carolina borders just east of Charlotte. This jar has an impressed 1 near the top, which we believe indicates a one gallon size size. There was likely a lid at one time. There is a good bit of debris on the bottom. We can make out what may be a maker's mark on the bottom but we are unable to attribute this piece to a particular maker. Weight is just over 3 lbs. An outstanding piece of pottery and hard to find in this condition.
