Large 17" Majolica Rooster - Stunning!

A spectacular large majolica rooster standing 17" high and approximately 11 1/2" from chest to tail feathers. Beautiful colors and attention to detail. We especially like the glazed bird atop the matte finish on the tree base--really makes the vibrant colors "pop" even more. Also of note is the attention to detail--you can see the rooster's tongue. This chicken is in great condition with no chips or cracks, though there is some crazing in the color glazes, not unusual for a vintage piece. There are a few rubs on the base which may be part of manufacture. The bottom is unmarked as to maker or country of origin, though it does have an artist mark and incised numbers and letters. Probably continental. Unpacked weight is almost 6 1/2 lbs.
