Late 1800's figural smoke set produced by the famous Bernhard Bloch factory at Eichwald, Austria. This large set shows a boy with a baskets and a tree stump. Cigars would have been placed in the hollow stump, matches in the basket on the boy's back, and spent matches would have been placed in the oval basket the boy pulls with his left hand. A match striker is impressed into the clay at the rear of the piece. Overall dimensions are 7" high, 7 1/4" wide, and 5 1/4" deep. The piece is marked on the bottom with the impressed "BB" mark along with the numbers 5509.

The piece has damage. There is a chip near the toe of the left boot, a handle is missing from the rear of the basket the boy is pulling, there are 2 surface chips on the large stump, and there are 3 chips on the brim of the boy's hat which someone covered with paint. The flesh (face, arms and hands) were done in a matte glaze and there is age discoloration to these parts. We've shown photos from all angles--please take a look. There are no cracks.

This set still displays well and of course could be professionally restored. We have priced it well below market value to reflect the damage.
