A wonderful turn-of-the-century post card box! We suppose the post card was the email of the late 1800's-early 1900's--a quick and easy way to communicate without the formality of serious letter writing, and keeping a supply of post cards, both received and to be sent, would have been standard in the Victorian home.
This box is constructed of lightweight wood and covered with a paper that has a pigskin leather look and feel. It retains its original brass hinges and closure and is stamped "Post Cards" in fancy script on the top. The interior is lined with a bright yellow silky fabric in very good condition with some looseness near the rear top. It appears there was once a divider in the box but it is long gone. Overall, the condition is very nice indeed.
Dimensions are 8" x 6 1/4" and 4 5/8" high. A great desk accessory and a perfect storage box for the antique or vintage post card collector.
