Boston & Sandwich Giant Sawtooth Whale Oil Lamp, Marble Base, Electrified

A fabulous whale oil lamp with brass stem and marble base made by the Boston & Sandwich Glass company c. 1850 in the Giant Sawtooth pattern. The glass is sparkling clear and free of chips and cracks. The brass fittings and marble base are original, we believe, and purchased by the Boston & Sandwich company from local manufacturers and installed at the Boston & Sandwich factory. They are in very good condition with original patina, some wear and splitting to the brass as pictured. The marble has no cracks, and the bottom is felted. The electrified portion likely dates to early 20th century; this can be removed and the lamp returned to oil if desired (the glass is not drilled). While the electric cord is old and the plug unpolarized, it is in good condition and works great, as do the sockets and pull chains. The lamp is 21 3/4" high to the top of the finial, and the marble base is 4 1/2" square. This is a heavy piece, weighing 4 1/2 lbs.
