Pair of Matching Mantle Vases with Hand Painted Enamel Decoration

A beautiful pair of Victorian era continental mantle vases, late 19th century. What makes these extra special is that they're mirror images--did you notice?--which means that they were made to be a pair and have stayed together for over 100 years!

Wonderfully translucent Bristol glass shading from dark to very pale pink and trimmed in gold. The hand painted and enamel decoration appears to be stylized butterflies. Note the raised black "jewel" center that resembles a ladybug and the red cabochon from which the antennae emanate. The gold fish scale and other elaborate decoration on the wings is lovely. These are large vases, measuring 12 1/2" tall and approximately 6" in diameter at their widest. The ground and polished tops are 3 7/8" in diameter, while the bases are 4 1/2" in diameter. The bases have a continental number 7 on them as pictured. There is some expected age fading to the decoration and a bit of loss to the black jewel on one vase, but overall the condition is excellent with no chips or cracks.
