Absolutely beautiful large Victorian biscuit barrel or cracker jar with silver plate lid and handle. We believe that this is like Mt. Washington or Wavecrest as the silver is marked Britannia Silver Plate, which was located in Meriden, Conn. and the CF Monroe decorating company was also located there and did much work for Mt. Washington. This jar is white bristol or opal glass tinged with pale green and decorated with lovely pink nasturtium blossoms and green leaves. The piece measures 11" tall with the handle in the upright position. It measures 8 3/4" to the top of the lid finial, and 6 1/4" to the top of the jar rim. It is 5 1/2" in diameter at its widest. The jar is in beautiful condition with no chips or cracks; there is some loss to the plate on the rim appropriate to a late 19th century piece. This is a lovely piece and would look just wonderful on your table or sideboard.
