Spectacular Jack in the Pulpit vase dating to the 1870's or 1880's. This magnificent example of Victorian glass stands 6" tall and about 6 3/4" at its widest. The milky or opaline exterior is complimented by a cased lining of mint green, darker on the ruffled and dimpled outer portion and shading to a pale mint at the interior. This vase is a show-stopper! It is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, or damage, a few specks of ash in the glass and on the pontil common to late 19th century glass manufacture when wood was used to fire the ovens and specks of ash almost inevitably adhered to the molten glass. Our best attribution for the piece is Boston and Sandwich, with English manufacture also a possibility.
