A lovely antique pastel painting on paper of purple and white crocus and green leaves. The antique gilded gesso frame is quite lovely, with the outer border being embellished with vines and leaves, giving rise to an rim of larger leaves at the 4 "sides", and the inner frame being gadrooned. The gilding is a bit chippy and the color shows wear and unevenness, adding to the overall charm (a gold paint pen from a crafts store could touch up the chips if you desire). You can see by the photo of the back that all is original. There's on old label on the back showing the framer, though we can't make out the name, but the address is 704 and 706 Arch Street, Philadelphia. The label is original and has a space for filling in if this were a negative, so we believe the framer was likely a photography shop and simply included the label for the address; alternatively, the frame may have originally been for a photograph but was changed to art by a precious owner. Either way, the pastel and frame are lovely and guaranteed antique.
Overall dimensions are 16 3/4" x 14 3/4", with the wall projection of the frame being just under 2". The glass is in excellent condition and the original wire for hanging remains.
