Entitled: Lone Walker Chief of “I-Nuk-Siks” (Robes Band) Blackfoot, this superb character portrait is dramatic, stirring. It is in excellent, all original condition, signed in the lower right hand corner: Don Prechtel ’70 and titled along the bottom by the artist. The feeling and artist’s capture of the dignity and determination of this chief makes the painting breath with life and history. Framed in its shadow box walnut original frame, the oil on canvas measures 12 inches by 15.25 inches. The frame measures 15 inches by 18 inches. Be sure and see the “Blackfoot Little Bird Woman” mated painting to this character portrait, painted to face each other. They make a stunning pair. The Blackfoot woman painted in 1969 is slightly larger than this painting.

This superb lifetime collection from the estate of an associate and long time friend of the artist Don Prechtel features many of the artist’s early (professional artist since 1968), and mid era work. Well Listed, American Western Artist Don Prechtel is renowned for his historical accuracy and quality in his work. A biography of this famous artist can be found at the many galleries exhibiting his work, museums that have his work in their art collections, and at his own website. He is well listed including “Contemporary Western Artists”. He has been the subject of many articles, his work gracing the covers and interiors of a number of books, and he is also a major historical muralist hired by many universities, museums, and communities. He has recently completed 4 massive murals for the new and remodeled wings of the Natural History Museum on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene, Oregon. His gallery oils of small size (5” by 7” example) sell $500-$1000. His large 3ft. to 4 ft. paintings sell in the range of $25,000, and his 16 by 30 and 24 by 24 sizes sell for between $4000 and $9000. His Civil War prints are extremely well known and sought after.
