I think this beautiful Circa 1900-1910 American Brilliant Cut Bowl is a Hoare piece on a Corning blank. The pattern is the “Saturn” pattern. This bowl is pictured in “The Complete Cut and Engraved Glass of Corning”, Jane Spillman. This bowl is also featured in the 1913 Hoare Catalog! The clarity and thickness is superb. The graphic cut leaves flow up and around the bowl accenting the 8 petal flower heads. The base is dramatically brilliant with the fine feathered star radiating from the center. The bowl is in very good condition with the exception of 23 easily fixed teeth chips that can be ground without changing the line of the sawtooth and 5 other tiny surface tooth imperfections. We have looked very carefully to accurately note the tooth condition. I am experienced with cut glass and can report that the teeth are totally fixable without changing the line, they are surface and not down deep into the tooth. The bowl is 8.25 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches high.
The three fine pieces of cut glass we are offering come from the estate of a well-known and well respected Oregon couple who spent their lives in the antique business. In the process, they collected for themselves, a superb, varied and beautiful collection of antiques. Their requirement for the items they kept for themselves was first outstanding beauty, craftsmanship, and design. Scarcity or rarity, uniqueness, and condition were the additional criteria.
