This is a wonderful collection of John James Audubon's famous art work in lithographic form published in 1964 by Harry Abrams of New York. Originally this portfolio had 30 prints, when I found it the number was 16, with 2 repeats of 2 of the prints. There was originally text written by George Dock, Jr. and it is no longer with this set, although it can be obtained at a reasonable price through a couple of internet outlets of which I am aware.

This portfolio contains 16 lithographs measuring 14 X 17 inches. The original portfolio measures 14.25 X 17.25, and has the plastic covering missing. However, the design of the cover, which is made of a heavy paper or cardboard is quite lovely in itself. The cover has a couple of small tears on the edges and shows some wear at the corners.

The prints themselves are in very good condition, showing age related toning with a few bends at corners but no folds, and foxing is noted only on the right edge of the Blue Jay. The subjects are: Carolina Parrot, Wood Duck, Passenger Pigeon(2), Belted Kingfisher (2), Florida Jay, American Magpie, American Flamingo, Little Screech Owl, Canada Jay, Yellow Breasted Chat, Brown Pelican, Cardinal Grosbeak, Blue Jay, Great Blue Heron, Band-Tailed Pigeon, and Baltimore Oriole.

Each of these would be gorgeous framed! Due to a limit of 9 photos per item, I cannot post photos of every lithograph but I've tried to show you how beautiful they are. Audubon was known for painting his subjects in their natural habitat and making them come to life. If you love birds, this is a great opportunity to collect the most famous bird lithographs ever done, by the man whose name is synonomous with wildlife and conservation.

These would easily sell for $20 apiece unframed due to their large size!
