Born in Paris in 1889, Lucien Lelong learned the finer points of luxury, style and sophistication from his father, a thriving textile shop owner. At the age of 22, Lelong attended the Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Paris, and by 1914 had designed his first complete collection. In 1919, Lucien Lelong opened the couture house that would eventually become the training ground for fashion luminaries like Jean Ebel, Pierre Balmain, Christian Dior, and Hubert de Givenchy.
This is a beautiful vintage powder box created of glass with an enameled scroll work design that covers the top and bottom. The top also has his stylized logo which reflects an Art Deco influence. This box once contained loose face powder. Wouldn't it be nice if the things we purchased came in such pretty containers today?
The box measures 3.5 inches in diameter and stands 2 inches high. The lid fits onto the box quite nicely. The enameling is in good condition as you can see in the photos although there is some minor wear in a few spots. There is one tiny little chip on the inside underneath rim of the powder box that I only found by looking with a loupe.
A beautiful vintage box that would add breadth and history to any collection of vanity items.
