During the 1950's, the use of butterfly wings in jewelry and accessories was a huge fad, and I can see why. The iridescense of the butterfly wings makes the most exotic and lovely shimmer--very different than any metal or stone. Executed in sterling silver by the Hoffman company, this pair of earrings depicts a sunset through the use of different segments and species of butterfly's wings. These are so much more beautiful in person. They measure 1 inch long and 7/8ths of an inch wide, and have screw backs which could easily be replaced by a sterling shepherd's hook at minimal cost. I've left them intact for the purists among us. Designed to get oohs and aahhs, they still have it after all these 50+ years! I can see these as both casual and dressy earrings, depending on your other accessories.
