The gorgeous collector's piece dates between 1859 to 1924. (See "The Book of Meissen" by Robert Rontgen.) During that period, Meissen used the straight crossed swords with a pummel at the bottom, that looks a bit like an oval. And this is first quality Meissen, there are no hash marks cut into the blank as Meissen did with anything that was not First Quality.
The beauty of this piece just takes my breath away. The applied gold is magnificent, the vining and leaves are raised so it is very dimensional. There is very little burnishing on this piece, and very little indication of wear. Obviously, this piece was proudly displayed, and I am sure that it was created for that purpose. There are no chips, cracks, nicks, or anything else wrong with this beauty. It is mint or near mint condition--a rarity with porcelain this age.
