There are a lot of roosters out there for collectors to choose from, but this one is definitely unique! Done primarily in white or cream, this cock of the walk has just hints of color to indicate feathers, a bright red comb, black painted eyes, and perhaps most unusual, one leg up and one down. The claws of the feet are done in gilt and it makes a very interesting artistic statement and study of this ornate and showy bird. From Japan, and I would guess the 1960s, there is no maker's mark or label. He is 6 inches high, 7 inches long and the base is 2.25 inches by 4 inches. I only noticed a minor repair to his beak when I was looking through the zoom lens. Barely discernable with the naked eye, but I have photographed it for you to decide what you think. He also has mild crazing throughout the ceramic finish if you look closely, which is not unusual for a vintage piece. Altogether a charming rooster, and not your ordinary cockadoodle-doo!
