This is an adorable Art Deco style vintage Scottie dog pin, in butterscotch plastic, and sporting a clear glass eye, with black center. Dog still has remnants of a black collar and red tongue. Dates to late 1920s – 1930s.

I don’t get a positive with 409 for bakelite or catalin, but do get a very strong odor with the hot water test. When held to a light source, the pin has translucency, so I would be more inclined to think possibly catalin, rather than bakelite.

Pin measures 1 5/8 inches wide, 7/8 inches high and 1/8 inch thick. Pinback has the old C clasp and holds securely, even though stem has a small bend. There are some lines and wear to the surface of the eye, but nothing that is noticed unless examining closely.
