One of the finest, heaviest, highest quality silver plated Victorian Sheffield bride’s basket we have owned. Unlike the usual white metal baskets that are easy to find, this one has an extra heavy, thick ornate swing handle, extra large hinges, thick raised ornate rim and unusual engraved panels in the center. Believe the base metal is brass, as in Sheffield plate, because the silver plating is thin with age in the center of the bowl down to a pale, silvery brass color. The handle, the outside, and the base still have a heavy silver plate. Shows some use but no dings, dents, rips or repairs.” 956, MX S3, and the letters FS and M are etched in old script.
