The figure popularly known as a Kate Greenaway type stands 2 1/4 inches inside a floral frame with 2 Birds and a Butterfly.The artist, Kate Greenaway,during the latter part of the 19th Century, popularized children dressed in early 19th Century clothing.This unique 1869-1898, Meriden Silverplate Co.Quadruple Plate, with a Lion, is the mark on the bottom of this Victorian Brides Basket, along with the maker's number 1684, and can be seen with a loop. This is a very unusual Victorian piece, that has 5 parts. The Quad.Silver Plate casserole base holds an enamel pie pan, held in place by a metal ring, with a highly ornate raised lid decorated with grapes and other fruit, used as the finial. It measures 12" between handles, and stands 5" high, to the top of the finial. It was well used, in fairly good condition, with a heavy patina.
