This spectacular portrait miniature was painted on ivory in the early twentieth century, possibly French. It depicts the most famous of Marie Antoinette's portraits, which was painted in Versailles by Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun in 1783. She is poses in a lovely plume hat, blue lace dress, and yellow bow tie. She is wearing two strands of pearls and has an interesting gesture on her face. She seems to be staring directly at you no matter the angle you look from; a testability to the artist's skills. The colors are very pleasant. It is signed in the lower right, but I can not safely make out the signature. It is held in the original ivory frame with convex glass, bezel, and original unopened backing (with French print)!
Condition: Very good. Small discoloration to the background around 2 o'clock (not very obvious). The glares in the photo are from the convex glass.
Measurements: Total: 5 3/4 in. x 5 in. Portrait: 3 1/4 in x 2 1/2 in.
Item ID: P-7
