This is a beautiful American Portrait Miniature. It was painted on ivory in the mid to late 18th century in the folk art style. It depicts a handsome man with a recently shaved beard in a blue overcoat. It is housed in a gilt metal frame with an aperture on the reverse which opens up to reveal a piece of fabric. There may be a signature and the sitter's name on the reverse of the portrait, but it has not been removed from the frame to check. I will leave that to the buyer. An excellent example for the serious collector!

Condition: Excellent. The frame was later made into a pin. ANY LINES OR SPOTS ON THE MINIATURE IS GLARE FROM THE GLASS.

Measurements: Miniature is 2 3/4 in. high x 2 1/4 in. wide. Frame is 3 1/2 in. high with the loop, but without the ring.
