This is a fantastic orchestra ensemble. Each piece in this street-peddler "band" was hand carved from ivory in late 19th century Germany. They sit atop turned genuine wood beer "barrels" with ivory stoppers. In the set there is a conductor, a mandolin player, a piper, and a trumpeter. The four figurines are very nicely defined and have gained a wonderful dark patina over the years. The attention paid to detail is amazing. Notice the realistically carved hats, clothes and wrinkled shoes. In addition, each piece has a completely unique face and character. Very hard to find these together after so long!
Condition: Overall, good condition. Conductor: missing baton. Mandolin player: damage to the very end of the mandolin. Trumpeter: chips to two of the ends of his fingers (not very obvious), missing trumpet, and once had a feather in his hat. Piper: Excellent.
Measurements: They are approximately 6 in. high. Ivory alone is about 4 in. high. The barrels are 1 3/4 in. in diameter.
