This is a very detailed ivory carving of a cherub made in Austria in the late 19th century. He stands atop a wine/beer barrel, holding a cross up high, as if to convey a message to a large crowd. His features, clothes and face are especially well carved. It is signed on the bottom with the original gilt bronze plaque which reads "J Zimmermann Muenchen Purusastr 1." We recently sold a similar piece by the same artist (an ivory soldier) and it can still be seen in our store.

Condition: Good condition. There is a repair to the hand holding the cross and the cross is a replacement.

Measurements: 3 1/2 in. tall x 1 in. diameter. Ivory alone: 2 1/4 in. tall.
