This exquisite box was made in India for the British trade in the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. It is made of beautifully spotted tortoiseshell (very nice - the shell on the lid and base match) and carved, hand etched ivory scrollwork in an octagonal design. The base material is a strong, hefty wood. Everywhere you look, there is an ivory border! The interior has a mirror and is lined with red velvet. On great feature of the piece is the original metal label on the bottom, which reads "Keep in cool & dry place. Hand made in India" It is a quality piece and a jewel to a true collector:
Condition: Great condition. There are some small nicks to corners and one plaque has a minute crack. The key is no longer with the piece, but it is unlocked. If needed, one can be made for little money. Very nicely preserved!
Measurements: 4 in. long x 3 in high
