Not often found are such quality pieces of Roseville, aside from a flake , two to the very bottom rim commensurate with age ,mentioned for accuracy and nothing to detract from its artistic value ~ or treasured perfection....a part of our American Art Pottery History....this piece is beautiful ~ with nothing to detract from the art work ~ quality pieces such as this are getting harder and harder to find~ An exceptional estate find, standing a full 8 " tall...with an amber matted background and the beautifully detailed magnolia on both the front and back. The bottom is a pedestal shape bearing the incised markings # 92-8 ca.1943
An impeccably styled embossed floral "mid period" pottery... The Roseville pottery company existed from 1890-1954....though no longer in production these limited edition pieces are long sought after...this particular collection is ca. 1943...
J.F. Weaver and several local potters started the Roseville Pottery Co. in late 1890 in Roseville,Ohio. .... 1892 George F. Young was elected secretary and general manager and thus evolved The Roseville Pottery Company in Zanesville, Ohio. Young and other pottery manufacturers saw Zanesville as ideal because of the rich clay deposits in the area. The first pieces of Roseville pottery were made in 1900 under the name "Rozane" or "Rozane Ware". These early pieces hardly resemble the image most modern-day collectors associate with the "classic Roseville" look.
At the end of the teens, Frank Ferrell became the art director and developed multi-colored Roseville pieces with embossed or molded designs. In 1926, George Young's son Russell T. Young took over the company and with his impeccable sense of style and refined taste, he gave birth to what is known as Roseville pottery or "middle period" Roseville.
Among these "mid period" patterns their Roseville signature(#) is impressed or in relief on the bottom of each piece...
