This map of Ireland, #6, is from Colton’s General Atlas, published New York, 1855. With original hand color and the distinctive Colton border, this original steel engraving is very sought after.
The Colton family dynasty, one of America’s foremost map and atlas publishers of the 19th century, published their first original atlas, the two volume Colton’s Atlas of the World in 1855. The General Atlas, also published in 1855, was the first single atlas published by the Colton brothers.
Size and Condition
All the counties of Ireland are distinguished by different hand coloring. This map indicates the capital of Kingdom, Dublin, County towns, Other Towns and Villages, Railroads, Common Roads, Canals and Battle Fields. The map has overall age toning and the paper is somewhat fragile with some tears along the edges. Otherwise the map is in good condition and the approximate size is 14” x 16 ¾”.
