Plates CLXIV, CLSV
Description
These are two original woodcut prints of bird eggs, the Whimbrel and Spotted Redshank, with additional hand coloring from the Rev. F.O. Morris’ “A Natural History of the Nests & Eggs of British Birds.” This very comprehensive work comprised three volumes and contained some of the most accurate drawings and information ever written on British birds and their habitat. The volumes were published in London, 1853-1856.
Rev. Morris (1810-1893) collaborated with Benjamin Fawcett, known for some of the finest color printing of the time, and with engraver A. F. Lyon to produce these very desirable prints.
Size and Condition
Plates CLXIV, Whimbrel, and CLXV, Spotted Redshank, show two eggs per page. The woodcuts are on high quality heavy paper and condition is very good. Size is approximately 6" x 9 3/4" and as a bonus, a copy of the original text and title page is included.
