This is an original hand colored lithograph map of Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and West Virginia from JOHNSON’S NEW ILLUSTRATED FAMILY ATLAS OF THE WORLD,
Published New York, 1866.
A very detailed state and county map it shows each township colored differently. Cities, towns, rail and stage routes, rivers, etc. are shown. There are five engraved vignettes:
University of Virginia, Fortress Monroe, General Post Office, Treasury Buildings and Patent Office. The decorative border is typical of the maps in this atlas.
Size and Condition
Condition is good with some age toning and a few tears in the lower margin. There is an original center fold and some browning along the fold line. Approximate size is 18” x 26 ½” and a copy of the original title page is included.
