Offering wonderful examples of hand painted LIMOGES, MEISSEN, NIPPON, ROSENTHAL and R.S. PRUSSIA...just to name a few!
This Ewer Vase measures 6 3/8" high and is 3 3/4" wide. The bottom bears the identifying embossed raised marking...(Roseville, U.S.A., 22-6). There is crazing in the glaze and a small knick-sliver chip from the base rim, not really seen when it sits on the table top. The sliver chip on the base rim can be seen in the photographs with the handle on the left. It can also be viewed from the photograph of the embossed base, slightly to the right of the 12:00 position.
As referenced by Warman's "Roseville Pottery Identification and Price Guide", by author Mark F. Moran, on Page 5, the following information is furnished..."MOST PRICE GUIDES LIST VALUES ASSUMING A PIECE IS IN MINT CONDITION, BUT THE PRICES IN THIS BOOK REFLECT THE REALITY THAT VERY FEW EXAMPLES OF POTTERY SURVIVE FOR DECADES WITHOUT AT LEAST MINOR WEAR OR DAMAGE". An identical piece is shown on Page 253...with the stated value of this piece being $250-$275, based on the above information with respect to condition. In good condition...we have priced this piece accordingly and by virtue of it's rare nature.
The Ohio based manufacturing company produced stoneware beginning in 1890 until sales declined after World War II, especially in the early 1950's, when inexpensive Japanese imports began to replace American wares. On November 29, 1954, the facilities of Roseville were sold to the Mosaic Tile Company.
This particular piece is rare and not often seen, thereby making it a highly desirable and collectible piece from the Zephyr Lily line of Roseville Pottery.
