Antique Oyster Plates ~ a GOOD investment! Increasing in value daily & NEVER being worthless as with some of today's stocks!
Minton & Holdcroft made an identical majolica oyster plate, however this one is unmarked...which is typical of antique oyster plates.
Circa 1800's
Four ribbed turquoise oyster wells with a pink/lavender sauce well all having mustard colored edges and separated by white pond lily blooms/buds & green leaves.
Fantastic highly glazed coloration and mottled back!
See plate (different coloration) on page 40 of Oyster Plate book by Karsnitz.
Did I mention 'Rare' & 'Awesome'????
No chips ~ hairlines ~ cracks ~ restorations.
Excellent condition with minute rubbing as shown in pix & minute crazing commensurate with age.
The mottled back of the plate is very hard to photograph therefore you must disregard the white reflections in the first photo of the back, however this is actually the true color.
The last photo shows the plate without reflections but is darker than the true color.
Measures 9.25" x 7.25"
WORTH NOTING...
There are literally hundreds of REPRODUCTION oyster plates on today's market.
Many of these NEW plates are listed as 'LIMOGES' and are actually made in CHINA (having a FAKE 'LIMOGES' mark).
NIPPON, too, is FAKE as NIPPON did NOT produce oyster plates.
NEW RS PRUSSIA & HAVILAND are also being passed off as GENUINE but, in fact, are 'KNOCK-OFFS'.
